The park itself is the first and foremost attraction of the place with a wealth of diverse flora and wildlife including species such as leopard, gaur (bison), elephant, sambar, langur, rhinoceros, peacock, sloth bear, antelope, giant squirrel, antelope and Chitali. Due to the well-maintained roads it is apt to opt for a jeep safari or preferably an elephant safari as this is the best way to explore this park in all its glory. The reserve was recently converted into a tiger reserve and offers a wide variety of wildlife, evergreen jungle greenery, birds as well as reptiles. It was created together with the Nilgiris in 1940 and is divided into 5 segments or areas.
Gopalaswamy Betta: Also called Hamavad is the highest peak of this park and at the top is the ancient temple of Lord Venugopal which is visited by many. This temple was built during the Chola dynasty and reflects their architectural style and is therefore a must see in Bandipur.
