Unusual Places in Europe You Have to VISIT Before Die!

1. Kjeragbolten, Norway

Wedged in the Kjerag mountain's crevasse above a 984-meter deep abyss, is a 5 cubic meter boulder named Kjeragbolten (English: Kjerag Bolt). Boulder was deposited at around 50,000 B.C. during the last glacial period.

2. Parikkala Sculpture Park, Finland

A few kilometers from the Russian border, in the far east of Finland, there is a rather strange attraction - the Parikkala Sculpture Park. In 1960 Viejo Rönkkönen started making sculptures and continued to create them until his death in 2010.

3. Giant's Causeway, Northern Ireland

Off the north coast of Northern Ireland lies a truly unique area of some 40,000 interlocking basalt columns. These pillars were formed 50 to 60 million years ago when Antrim was subject to intense volcanic activity. Most are hexagonal, some have eight sides, and the tallest is around 12 meters. In 1986 the area was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and in 1987 it was declared a National Nature Reserve by the Northern Ireland Department for the Environment.

4. Mont Saint Michel, France

About a kilometer off the northwest coast of the country lies the tidal island of Mont Saint Michel. The island has about 6 hectares, more than 60 buildings, and is inhabited by 30 people as of 2017. The island's history begins in the 6th and 7th centuries when it served as a stronghold of Gallo-Roman culture, then in the 8th century, a church was built on a rocky island.

5. Tinto River, Spain

The Rio Tinto rises from the mountains of the Sierra Morena and is a 100 km long river. The river retains its very characteristic red-orange color for about 50 kilometers. This is because in 3000 B.C. The Iberians and Tartessians began mining silver, gold, manganese, iron, copper, and other minerals. After 5,000 years of mining up to 20km from the shore, the river has become very acidic with high levels of iron and heavy metals, giving the river its colors.
